Katey Sagal
Katey Sagal, a gifted and versatile
performer capable of comedy as well as drama, was an actor/singer who became a
popular face in the late 1980s when she played the character as Peg Bundy, the
eloquently open, unorthodox Peg Bundy in Fox's Married... with Children (1987).
In the course of its long run, she was awarded three Golden Globe and two
American Comedy Award nominations. Peg Bundy's character was popular, and Katey
continued her career, not only staring in sitcoms, but also playing roles that
were quite different from the role that caught her to the attention of. In 2008
she played the character of Gemma Teller Morrow (the matriarch of the Hell's
Angels-esque California biker group) on Sons of Anarchy (2008). Her portrayal
won her an award in the form of a Golden Globe Award in 2011 for Best
Performance by an Actress on the TV Series Drama. Catherine Louise Sagal was
the daughter of Sara Zwilling, a singer and Boris Sagal, a noted director of
film and television. Los Angeles native Catherine Louise Sagal began performing
at the tender age of 5. She then went to school for voice and acting at the
California Institute of the Arts. She was a singing waitress in her
"salad" times. After her time with "The Group With No
name," she got a break when she joined forces with Gene Simmons and KISS,
a 1970s rock band. She also served as an alternate vocalist for Simmons and
other well-known stars such as Bob Dylan, Olivia Newton-John and Tanya Tucker.
She also performed with a lot of energy when she performed live together with
Bette Midler during Bette's wild avant-garde stage show of the late 1970s/early
1980s.
